Wednesday 5-22 ( Faria Beach Park)

Published on

I have learned a new saying that applies to the weather in Southern California. “May, gray, June , gloom”. I have heard this over and over from the locals in regard to the weather. It is referring to the steel gray skies that have you thinking that it is going to rain any minute. The temperature is cool. Not what you would expect for “Sunny California “. Today was that kind of day.

I spent the day just hanging by my campsite watching the ocean. The Pacific Ocean didn’t disappoint!

Fishing boat

I watched a fishing boat let out its nets and then haul them back in. There was all kinds animal life surrounding the boat. Sea birds and sea lions. The sea lions would slip into the nets for a quick snack as the fisherman tried to scare them off. Then they would swim around to the back side of the boat and climb on to it. It was actually quite comical to watch.

I have a newly formed respect for how hard these guys work on these boats! Glad I never had to do it!

Dolphin pod

I also got to watch a couple of pods of dolphin cruise by my viewing point. They move so effortlessly through the water!

Pelicans

Then there were all the seabirds and the constant aerial show. They are harder to get pictures of, because they move so fast!

I did this for most of my day, until my grandnephew showed up with his girlfriend to visit. They brought along a picnic basket full of food, so we ate a quick meal and then went for a hike along the coast.

Liam and Rachel

A very good end to a June gloom kind of day!

Tomorrow I will pack up and head north to Pinnacles National Park.
