In my last post I explained that I was headed to Panama City Beach and then back to my home in Cuba, MO. I arrived back in Cuba Friday evening.

I didn’t explain the reason I returned home so abruptly. I received a message informing me that my son Nicholas was going to be honored as the “Denise L Smith Volunteer of the year for 2024” at Truman State University. Since I am both an alumni and a very proud father, I decided that being at the awards ceremony was more important than completing my trip!
The positive byproduct of this change is that I get to see Nick get his so richly deserved award. I get to go back for homecoming and participate in my fraternities 100 years of existence celebration. I get to attend a family get together to celebrate my son Logan’s birthday. I get to see all of my grandchildren in one spot at the same time. I also got to meet up with some of my fishing buddies and went trout fishing on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. All in all it was a very easy decision for me to make!
I will go back and get the other two parks later in November. So for now…… I get to fight all the leaves in my backyard!
