Friday – September 8th

Today has been a travel day. I left the North Cascades park and made it to my halfway point. Ruby’s Resort and RV Park in Medical Lake, WA.

The drive was fine. Just a little under 5 hours. So I got here early this afternoon. I set up my overnight camp, ate some lunch and I’m going to take advantage of the showering capabilities here. It’s always a good thing to have access to showers.

I took some pictures along my route. I didn’t even realize that I would be driving right by the Grand Cooley Dam until I did! I had to stop for a picture there.

Some of the drive was going through the areas of the park that were still on fire. We had to drive slowly and deliberately. No stopping allowed in those areas. I did try to catch some pictures that had smoke in them. Not sure how well it worked. But boy did it ever smell like a giant campfire!

As I kept progressing eastward, there were less and less trees coving the mountains. Then there were less and less mountains. Finally it reminded me of the high desert on North Texas and New Mexico.

Good Morning from the road
That is smoke
More smoke
You guessed it, more smoke
Mountains with fewer trees
Hills not Mountains any longer
Cooley Lake and Dam
Close up of the Dam
Looks like High Desert to me!
Welcome to Ruby’s Resort and RV Park
Overnight setup
Very cool 1956 Airstream “Bubble” on the site next door

Tomorrow I’m planning on getting an early start. I want to get to Glacier as soon as I can.

Anyone who has been there and has suggestions on what is a must see, please leave them in the comments. Thanks

Looks like a nice drive Dad. Do you enjoy the mountains more than the deserts?

All of Glacier, whatever you can absorb while you are there Road to the Sun, glacier lakes and hikes. We stayed in the lodge on the West Side at Lake McDonald. I think you might need reservations to get into the Park?
Enjoy all its beauty!! Save travels. And don’t forget you are in Huckleberry everything land!!
