I believe I predicted a good day in my first post today. I was wrong….. today turned out to be a great day day!
I got an early start on the day. I knew it was going to get to Winslow early and was trying to imagine what I was going to do to fill the time. Then I saw the sign! The sign said “17 miles to Petrified Forest National Park”. I couldn’t believe my eyes. How did I plan this whole trip and not notice that I was going to be driving right by a National Park that I don’t have a stamp in my National Park Passport. So my dilemma of how to kill some time was instantly solved!

I swung by the visitors center and got my stamp. Then I drove through the scenic drive in the park. It is 32 miles long and runs north and south in direction. Here are some of my pictures taken along the way:

I left the National Park and made it to my lunch date with my Nephew Brandon. We met and had lunch at the Historic La Posada Hotel. Good Lunch, better company!
We ate lunch and reconnected. Afterwards we took a walk down the street to see the “A Corner” best know as part of the Eagles song “Take It Easy”. There are a couple of statues there and of course… there had to be a Flatbed Ford a few hundred feet away.

I had less than an hours drive to Flagstaff, AZ where I have set up my camp for the evening
I am in a KOA campground. Parked right next to me is a camping rig the likes of which I have never seen before! What is really crazy is that my rig is right next to this one! The contrast between the two is staggering!

I think I will take my little rig to Joshua Tree National Park in the Morning. Only 5 1/2 hour of driving and I’ll be able to set up my full camp for four nights and five days.
