Sunday 5/12 ( Joshua Tree National Park)

Published on

I got an early start this morning and left a very chilly KOA campground in Flagstaff, AZ. The thermometer in my car had the temperature at 34 degrees. I headed west out of Arizona and into California. The route to Joshua Tree National Park is full of very curvy, undulating two lane roads driving through the California desert. I’m very glad to be off of them for a while.

Normally I find my campsite and then go to the Visitors Center. This time the official Visitors Center wasn’t even in the park! It is in a small town outside of the park called 29 Palms. So I stopped in and got my stamp. Then I found my campsite and set up my camp. This will be my home until Friday morning.

Lots and lots of very big rocks here. Elsewhere in the park there are lots and lots of big Joshua Trees.

When I got to my campsite I looked at the temperature reading. It was 94 degrees! I can hardly remember the last time I experienced a 60 degree swing in temperature during the course of one day!
