Saturday 5-25 (Pinnacles National Park)

Published on

The name of the game for the rest of my stay will be hiking. Friday I hiked on three moderate trails and one easy trail.

Old Pinnacles trail. Moderate 1.3 miles
Trail map
Flowers along the trail
Start of the Balconies Cave Trail – Moderate trail .4 miles
They paint arrows on the trail so you can follow it through the cave. You have to have a flashlight to be able to follow the trail. It was very dark in there!
Balconies trail. – Easy trail .6 miles

My lunch spot. Great view!
You could do some climbing if you would like
Balconies Cliffs Trail – Moderate .8 miles

I ended up hiking 6.8 miles this day. Lots of vertical gain and then back down again.

The park has two entrances. The east entrance and the west entrance. You can’t drive from one to the other while inside the park. The only way to get from one side to the other is to hike the trails I did today. The other way would be a car ride of over 100 miles!

Looks like you’re having good weather at Pinnacles. Beautiful! If you get tired of hiking, the John Steinbeck center in Salinas is very interesting, or you can see where Vertigo was filmed at the San Juan Bautista mission.

    1. It was a great park with some very nice hikes. I’ll have to come back to catch Salinas.

    1. It was plenty busy this weekend! Holiday and all. But still nowhere near like some of the bigger parks!
