I was shocked when I realized that it has been more than six months since I have posted anything to this blog.
It is high time I get back to visiting more National Parks. There are four National Parks in the state of Colorado. I have been saving the last three I haven’t been to, until my oldest son Logan and his family relocated to Ft Collins, CO.
This trip started with a short two day visit with Logan, Alex and baby Callum. I left their home on Monday and drove to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. This is the fortieth park that I have visited.
The dominant feature of this park is the 14 mile long canyon created by the Gunnison River. The river has been working on this canyon for over 1.8 million years!
What makes this canyon so unique are the steep canyon walls that keep much of the canyon in shadow most of the time giving it its name. The north and south rims of the canyon walls are unusually close together. At one point the canyon walls are only 40 feet apart! The rims are 1700 to 2250 feet above the river.
The park is home to many different species of animals. I did get to see some smaller wildlife today on my hikes. The largest animal I saw was a small Mule Deer.
Here are some of my pictures. I will be heading back to my son’s house this Thursday to celebrate my grandson’s first birthday!
Happy birthday Callum!

I will be going to visit two more parks in July. I’ll post again then!
Remember……. Resist!
