Thursday – September 14 (Grand Tetons National Park)

I know I said I was just going to sit around all day and read my book. I tried …… it didn’t work. I woke up early as usual and tried to go back to sleep……..That wasn’t happening. I got up and it was 42 degrees and overcast. The idea of sitting around waiting for things to warm up didn’t sound good to me , so I improvised. I packed up camp and drove down to The Grand Tetons National Park. It is less than an hour away. I found the closest Visitors Center and got my stamp in the passport. I talked with an information Ranger and got the lay of the land. I spent the rest of the day checking things out and then I headed east. I stopped in a town called Riverton, WY. I am currently a guest at the Super 8 hotel! Freshly showered and feeling so good! I walked to a Kentucky Fried Chicken place and had a three piece dinner. Life is good this evening!

Tomorrow I will head out to Custer State Park a day earlier than originally planned. There are some first come first serve campsites available.

I will let you know where I am once I get settled in.

Here are todays pictures:

National Park # 17
Jackson Lake
Some of the Grand Tetons
Taken at the Jackson Lake Overview
This is about as close as I ever want to get to a Bear! Even one that is stuffed!
Panoramic shot taken at the Willow Flats Overlook
Glaciers
Closer look at the Glaciers. I think Grand Teton National Park has more Glaciers than Glacier National Park!
Mock up of a ferry used to cross the Snake River. Taken at Menors Ferry
River Tours are available
Different angle of the ferry boat
The peaks that spawned the name. The Grand Tetons!
The Snake River Overview
The Snake River again
Bison
Closer up Bison
Even more Bison
Even Closer Bison
Believe it or not, all those Bison were part of one herd! There must have been close to a thousand of them. They were all in the same valley at Elks Ranch Flats.

So I left the Grand Tetons and headed east towards South Dakota. Nothing much happened along the way, except it rained a little bit. Because of the rain, I was able to get these shots

Beautiful Rainbow
If you look closely, you can just make out the second Rainbow on the left
