Tom's National Park Adventure

Visiting this National Park has been so different than any other park I have visited previously. The difference has been having my family here with me!

Normally when get to a park I find out what will be the best use of my time and go out and check the park out. I’m usually by myself and enjoy learning all I can about the park.

I like to report back things that I find interesting about the park. Things like ……… This park was originally established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in July of 1916. In February of 1919 it was named Lafayette National Park. On January 19, 1929 it was renamed Acadia National Park.

The park is 76.6 square miles and includes acreage on Mount Desert, the Isle au Haut and the Schoodic peninsula.

I have been out with my family and we have been experiencing this beautiful park. Doing this with them has been so much fun. Hopefully I will be able to do this again soon!

Yesterday we went to the airport in Bangor to pick up my daughter. We stopped by a Walmart to fill up on provisions. We ended up eating at the Island Take Out and enjoyed some really good Jamaican cuisine. Then back to the Air BnB.

While we were at the airport, the rest of the crew rented bicycles and toured around some of the 45 miles of “carriage roads” that were donated by John D Rockefeller and built between 1913 and 1940.

We ended up barbecuing and then went down to the beach at Seal Harbor to check it out during low tide!

This morning we got up and drove to Jordan Pond House. We hiked around the Jordan Pond and then enjoyed some of the famous “popovers” served at the Pond House restaurant.

We ended up hiking a little over four miles. It is such a beautiful area. We went back home and some decided to nap, others decided to go swimming at the beach while others went into Bar Harbor to do some more shopping.

Everything was clipping along just fine until the storms decided to blow through the area!

When the storms cleared we went to Abel’s Lobster Pound for dinner.

The lobsters were fresh and tasty. The service was wonderful and we had a fantastic dinner.

Tomorrow morning we are headed to the summit of Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunrise!
